Biography

Jeff is a Managing Director at Aletheian Labs with over 20 years of experience in digital forensics, cyber security, and complex investigations. Jeff has conducted and supervised digital forensic examinations in civil and criminal matters in state and federal courts. He has served as a testifying expert and court-appointed neutral and is experienced in depositions, trials, and presenting technical findings to boards and outside auditors.

Early in his career, Jeff provided expert reporting and testimony regarding a data destruction in Gutman v. Klein, which established the foundation for the first default judgment for electronic evidence spoliation in the federal Second Circuit.

Before joining Aletheian Labs, Jeff served as Managing Director at LevelBlue and Aon Cyber Solutions, where he built an engineering team that developed and launched CyQu, an award-winning cyber insurance broking tool. Previously, he was at Stroz Friedberg, advancing through its DFIR practice while coordinating DFIR operations across the firm’s global forensic laboratories.

Representative Matters

Led a team of compliance technology specialists supporting an independent consultant overseeing remediation associated with a $385 million regulatory settlement involving sanctions and anti-money-laundering controls

Conducted forensic analysis of a server operating behind a TOR hidden service and evaluated the technical plausibility of claims raised in connection with the matter

Analyzed proprietary high-frequency trading source code and source-code version-control activity to reconstruct development timelines in support of an intellectual property theft investigation

Conducted network traffic and software behavior analysis of a browser extension that scraped and injected website content, and prepared an affidavit describing the findings in civil litigation

Led forensic assessments of digital forensics programs at a major federal government institution and a large government defense contractor, providing findings and recommendations regarding forensic practices and capabilities

Led source-code review and expert analysis of C++ software associated with the geolocation of Wi-Fi access points

Led forensic teams in large-scale electronic discovery matters involving multi-terabyte collections and more than 120 custodians, coordinating preservation, processing, analysis, and production under significant time constraints
