Benjamin Chase is a Director at Aletheian Labs with over 25 years of experience in digital forensics, cybersecurity, and network engineering.
He often works on matters that require understanding how systems function together in practice and how data moves through them. He determines how access was gained, what events transpired inside the environment, and how data moved along the way. Where applicable, he performs testing of systems and analyzes their network communications and behavior under real-world scenarios.
Ben has led investigations involving trade secret misappropriation, ransomware, and data exfiltration. These matters often involve environments that are complex, distributed, and not fully documented.
Before joining Aletheian Labs, Ben was a Director at Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42, where he led digital forensics and incident response investigations for Fortune 500 clients. He previously served as Director of IT Engineering and DFIR team lead at URM Stores, where he built and managed the IT engineering and enterprise security teams. Earlier in his career, he served in senior technical roles as a network engineer, including service in the U.S. Navy supporting classified and unclassified systems.

- Forensic and engineering intersection
Analyzed payment terminal hardware and network traffic to determine what data was transmitted, where it was sent, and how systems were functioning in response to a government inquiry
Led investigations involving ransomware and data exfiltration, analyzing system and network activity to determine how access was gained, what was accessed, and what left the environment
Performed application and network traffic analysis to evaluate whether systems were functioning as expected or behaving in ways that required further explanation
Conducted forensic analysis in matters involving theft or misappropriation of trade secrets, including tracking how information was accessed and moved between systems
Managed large-scale investigations for enterprise organizations, overseeing forensic analysis and coordinating with legal and executive stakeholders to keep findings aligned
Testified as a digital forensics expert regarding network communications and system behavior in a dispute involving connected devices
